The School of Kinesiology in the Faculty of Applied Sciences at Simon
Fraser University invites applications for a postdoctoral training
position in the area of musculoskeletal biomechanics. The goal of this
program is to prepare individuals for leadership roles in biomedical
and rehabilitative engineering by enhancing their ability to define
important research questions, address these through experimental and
computational models, and communicate research results. Specific areas
of study include postural stability, fall mechanics, and hip fracture
prevention in the elderly. The position is funded by grants from the
U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and National Institutes for
Health (NIH), and will involve substantial interactions with biomedical
engineers, kinesiologists, physical therapists, and geriatricians.
The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering,
biomechanics, or a related field. Past experience in experimental
research with human subjects, or mathematical modeling of human
movement, is beneficial but not essential. The duration of the position
is two years and the stipend is CDN$33,000/year plus health benefits.
The intended start date is September 30, 2000 although applications
