    ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

    ACL INJURIES:
    THE GENDER QUESTION

    A Research Retreat
    Sponsored by and Held at
    Kentucky Sports Medicine Clinic
    601 Perimeter Dr.
    Lexington, KY
    April 6-7, 2001

    MISSION:

It has been well recognized that female athletes are at significantly
greater risk of injuring their anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) compared
to their male counterparts. The reasons for this difference is not
entirely clear. However, there are a number of directions currently being
investigated including causes related to structural, biomechanical,
neuromuscular and hormonal factors. The purpose of this retreat is to
provide a forum for those involved or interested in this area for
discussing the current state of research. It is hoped that the
information provided will help to begin to build a foundation upon which
optimal prevention and rehabilitation strategies can be developed and
provide a direction for future research.

    FORMAT:

The format will incorporate one hour presentations by the keynote
speakers with group discussions to follow. In addition, there will
be time alloted for a number of 15 minute podium presentations of
research relating to gender bias in ACL injuries.
