Dear members,
I am currently trying to compile a rather exhaustive list of the
forces sustained by various lower extremity structures during walking
and running.
Structures of interest would be bone-on-bone forces (and pressure) at
the ankle, knee, patellofemoral and hip joints. Shear forces at
these same joints. Tension in the patellar tendon, achilles tendon
and plantar fascia. Tension in the cruciate ligaments of the knee.
And any forces applied to other structures of the lower extremity
such as the tibia and metatarsals.
Optimally I would like to make a list that consist of the authors
(and the reference), the walking speed, the structure and the force
value.
So far, I have found a number of references for bone-on-bone forces
For example, Simonson et al (1995) report bone-on-bone forces of
4.2times BW at the ankle, 4.6 times BW at the knee and 6.4 times BW
at the hip when walkign at a speed of 1.4 m/s.
I also have some information on achilles tendon tension, For
example, Finni et al. (1998) report achilles tendon forces of 1430N
on average at walking speeds of 1.1 to 1.8 m/s.
I am also finding quite a few things on running, but surprisingly
less on walking.
Any help would be appreciated to help compile this list. Please
provide the reference only or provide the reference with the key
information listed here.
full reference, walking speed, structure, and force value (hopefully
expressed in (normalized to) BW).
I will be happy to create a table that can be posted on biomch-l.
Thanks you in advance.
