    Description:
    The Rehabilitation Engineering group within the Department of Biomedical
    Engineering at the Marquette University currently has graduate research
    assistantships available. Assistantships include stipend and full tuition
    support. The Department of Biomedical Engineering has five full-time
    faculty with research interests in rehabilitation engineering spanning both
    orthopedic and neural engineering applications: Jack Winters, Professor and
    Chair; Gerald Harris, Professor; Barbara Silver-Thorn, Associate Professor;
    Brian Schmit, Assistant Professor; and Robert Scheidt, Assistant
    Professor. There are also 15 adjunct faculty with expertise in
    orthopedics and/or rehabilitation medicine, most with their primary
    appointment in departments at the nearby Medical College of
    Wisconsin. Specific areas of need include 1) biomechanical assessment of
    motor impairments in spinal cord injury, 2) characterization of motor
    learning and the neural control of human movement, and 3) kinematic and
    kinetic evaluation of the lower extremities during balance and gait in
    patients wearing orthoses.

    Qualifications:
    Candidates should hold a B.S. or M.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering or
    related discipline. An interest in rehabilitation engineering and human
    motor performance is required. A background in mechanics, modeling, signal
    processing, control theory and/or biocomputing is helpful. The positions
    are contingent upon graduate admission to Marquette University, with a
    preferred starting date of January 2001, or September 2001 with
    availability during the Summer of 2001. Interested candidates should send
