Graduate Research Assistantships, Marquette University, Department of
    Biomedical Engineering, Milwaukee, Wisconsin USA

    Position:Graduate Research Assistantships
Organization:Marquette University, Department of Biomedical Engineering
    Location:Milwaukee, Wisconsin USA
The Rehabilitation Engineering group within the Department of Biomedical
Engineering at the Marquette University currently has graduate research
assistantships available. Assistantships include stipend and full tuition
support. The Department of Biomedical Engineering has five full-time
faculty with research interests in rehabilitation engineering spanning both
orthopedic and neural engineering applications: Jack Winters, Professor and
    Chair; Gerald Harris, Professor; Barbara Silver-Thorn, Associate Professor;
Brian Schmit, Assistant Professor; and Robert Scheidt, Assistant
Professor. There are also 15 adjunct faculty with expertise in
orthopedics and/or rehabilitation medicine, most with their primary
appointment in departments at the nearby Medical College of
Wisconsin. Specific areas of need include 1) biomechanical assessment of
motor impairments in spinal cord injury, 2) characterization of motor
learning and the neural control of human movement, and 3) kinematic and
kinetic evaluation of the lower extremities during balance and gait in
    patients wearing orthoses.

Candidates should hold a B.S. or M.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering or
related discipline. An interest in rehabilitation engineering and human
motor performance is required. A background in mechanics, modeling, signal
processing, control theory and/or biocomputing is helpful. The positions
are contingent upon graduate admission to Marquette University, with a
preferred starting date of January 2001, or September 2001 with
availability during the Summer of 2001. Interested candidates should send
a brief statement of research interests, a CV, and the names of at least
two references to the address given below. See also .
