Fitting shoes

Dear colleagues:
I was trying to find some technical material concerning the fitting of shoes
to normal population. All I could find were some papers presenting theories
and models. Do you happen to know a PRACTICAL available source, presenting
actual measurements to be taken on the feet and/or shoes, average values,
and maybe even how to decide the best fitting size?
I'll send a resume if others are interested.
