RE: Immediate opening for a research associate position at the Biomechanics
Laboratory, Legacy Clinical Research & Technology Center, Portland, Oregon.
Applications are invited for a research associate position at the Legacy
Biomechanics Laboratory with funding for at least three years. We provide an
excellent opportunity to conduct research in a newly equipped laboratory,
located in an inter-disciplinary, state-of-the-art research center. Close
collaboration with clinical faculty, scientists, engineers and precision
machinists provides a streamlined environment focused on the conduct of
basic and applied research in the field of orthopaedic biomechanics.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate has a Masters or Ph.D. degree in an engineering
science, preferably mechanical or biomechanical engineering. Must have
experience in biomechanical research and a record of publications in
refereed journals. Demonstrates capabilities and desire to establish a
focused line of research. Candidate has organizational and interpersonal
skills and enjoys collaboration with clinicians and scientists and
supervision of student projects. Experience in Finite Element Modeling /
Ansys strongly desirable. Familiarity with test and measurement equipment,
Labview and Solidworks CAD is a plus.
Responsibilities:
Conduct, supervision and publication of research. Attracting external
research grants and developing and strengthening relationships with industry
and government agencies. No teaching commitments.
The position involves to plan and direct research in collaboration with
clinicians, engineers, orthopaedic residents and students.
Current areas of focus include:
- Trauma care: Non-invasive stabilization of pelvic ring fractures.
Funded by the U.S. Navy.
- Orthopaedics: Surgical management of intra-articular fractures with
articulated external fixation.
- Basic interdisciplinary research: In vitro modeling of rapid
acceleration brain injury in organotypic brain slice cultures. Collaboration
with renown Dow Neurobiology program.
- Industry collaboration: Evaluation of hip fracture fixation devices.
Legacy Clinical Research & Technology Center:
The newly remodeled six story, 65,000 square foot research center, located
in downtown Portland, houses selected research programs, support
laboratories, and administrative offices. It provides a unique platform,
combining basic science, clinical expertise and all necessary support
infrastructure. Legacy's non-profit research center maintains ongoing
collaborations with Universities and biomedical enterprises for effective
technology transfer and sharing of resources. See also
