All submissions should be with a covering letter containing the name,
address and contact details for the corresponding author, including e-mail
address, and up to four keywords (available from the web site). Please
indicate whether you would like the abstract to be considered for an oral
presentation/poster presentation/either or a Special Symposium (listed on
the web site).

Publication in the Journal of Materials Science: Materials in Medicine
Fifty selected abstracts will be invited to submit short papers (4 journal
pages) for publication in the Journal of Materials Science: Materials in
Medicine in the December 2001 special issue. The manuscripts must be
received by 1 May 2001.

Additionally nominations are requested for the ESB Prizes
George Winter
The George Winter award is established to recognise outstanding
contributions in the field of biomaterials. The nominee must have
contributed significantly to knowledge in the field of biomaterials and/or
materials controlled, or influenced, reactions within the body through
basic, experimental and/or clinical research. The work must have been
published previously.
Jean LeRay
The Jean Leray award is established to recognise outstanding contributions
in the field of biomaterials by a young scientist. The nominee must be under
the age of 35 and have contributed to knowledge in the field of biomaterials
and/or materials controlled, or influenced, reactions within the body
through basic, experimental and/or clinical research.
Both prizes are presented annually during the ESB Conference and consist of
a certificate, a plaque, refund of the Conference registration fee and
travelling expenses. The nominees need not be members of ESB or citizens of
European countries.
Nominations for one or both prizes should be submitted by 31 December 2000

Student Prizes
ESB Student Awards are for 2 young scientists (under the age of 35). The
work must not have been published previously. Candidates must indicate when
they submit their abstracts if they would like to be considered for these
prizes. The award winners will be selected by an awards committee and the
awards are presented during the conference. Each award consists of a
certificate, refund of the Conference registration fee and travelling
expenses up to 600Euros.
Travel Awards
ESB Travel Awards are to encourage the participation of young scientists in
the conference. The applicants do not need to be members of ESB or citizens
of European countries. The travel awards will contribute to the cost of
travel to the conference.
