  • PhD Scholarships in Motor Control in Australia

Applicants are invited to join a multidisciplinary team investigating the
control of human movement in the Schools of Physiotherapy and Biomedical
Sciences at the University of Sydney and the School of Electrical
Engineering and Telecommunications at the University of New South Wales.
This NH&MRC-funded research will be carried out at the Faculty of Health
    Sciences campus of USyd.

Two scholarships are available to investigate:
    1) the role of muscle stretch reflexes in control of movement, with
specific focus on the effects of reflexes on the mechanical properties of
limbs, signal processing nonlinearities in reflex pathways and the
    influence of muscle fatigue;
    2) the roles of information, energy and noise in motor control and the
learning of joint synergies in coordination.

Candidates should hold, or expect to obtain, a good honours or masters
(research) degree in human movement studies, neuroscience, physiotherapy,
psychology, biomechanics, biomedical or electrical engineering, exercise
and sports science or a similar field.
The scholarships are valued at A$22,720 pa (tax exempt) + A$1,575 pa
maintenance and conference allowance. They will be tenable from early 2001
and awarded for 1 year in the first instance, renewable for a further 2
    years subject to satisfactory progress.
For further information, applicants should contact Nicholas O'Dwyer.

    Closing: 5th January, 2001
