The Division of Kinesiology announces an open position (tenure track) in
the area of Kinesiology and Human Factors. The division houses the
Human Factors Research Laboratory (HFRL), which is internationally
recognized and has strong interdisciplinary ties across the University.
We seek to hire an individual with demonstrated or potential scholarship
at the national and international level. Prospective applicants are
expected to make a significant contribution to the teaching of human
factors and associated coursework and to develop an independent research
program. Further information about the Division of Kinesiology, the
HFRL engineering research program and associated elements of human
performance, and the College of Education and Human Development can be

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Teaching and Development: Strengthening the existing undergraduate and
graduate human factors program. Teaching responsibilities include
courses in undergraduate and graduate human factors, as well as
opportunities to develop coursework and seminars in the successful
candidate’s research areas of interest.
Research: Develop and maintain a distinguished record of scholarship in
the area of human-machine interactions. The candidate’s research agenda
should be complimentary to current research programs of other division
faculty. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the
school’s current excellent record of grant funding.
Service: Participate in college, University, and community service, or
other outreach activities, such as service on internal committees or
task forces and/or making presentations to external constituencies.
Participate in the activities of relevant professional organizations.
Desired Background and Experience:
Minimum qualifications:
· An earned doctorate in the field of kinesiology or a closely related
discipline in the behavioral or engineering sciences. Applications from
ABD candidates will be considered, provided the individual is on track
to complete the doctorate by the position start date. If the successful
candidate does not have a conferred doctorate by then, he or she will be
appointed as a Teaching Specialist until the degree is conferred.
· Evidence of excellence in scholarship and publications, teaching and
academic program development at the graduate level, and service/outreach
activities is required for appointment as Associate Professor.
Applicants who have already achieved tenure at another institution and
who have a strong and extensive scholarly record may be considered for
appointment at the level of tenured Associate Professor.
Preferred qualifications:
· Evidence of research productivity in the form of peer?reviewed
publications or conference presentations, and/or a proven record of
success in procuring external funding.
· Evidence of the potential to teach and contribute to academic program
development at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
· Working knowledge of the uses of technology in human movement analysis
and demonstrated potential to teach undergraduate and graduate
performance analysis classes.
Appointment Details: The individual hired will be appointed into a
full?time, 9?month position as either a tenure?track Assistant or
Associate Professor. Salary is competitive and commensurate with
experience, and the likely starting date is August 27, 2001.
