    Director of Biomedical Engineering

    Kessler Medical Rehabilitation Research and Education Corporation
    (KMRREC), a not-for-profit medical rehabilitation research organization
    seeks candidates for a newly established position to serve as Director
    of the Biomedical Engineering Laboratory to integrate with current
    research laboratories focusing on Neuroscience and Neuropsychology,
    Human Performance and Movement Analysis, Outcomes Research, the Spinal
    Cord Injury and Traumatic Brain Injury Model Systems of Care.

    Candidates for this position should be experienced leaders in the field
    of biomedical or rehabilitation engineering with the ability to initiate
    and direct a major new research program. Major responsibilities include
    the following:

    * Creating a vision for the new program, including programmatic emphasis

    * Recruiting and mentoring new staff
    * Developing a pre-doctoral and post-doctoral training program in
    association with area universities
    * Guiding the program to national prominence
    * Conducting a program of exemplary, funded research
    * Blending research with the clinical and academic programs of the
    Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation, UMDNJ – New Jersey Medical School
    and the New Jersey Institute of Technology

    KMRREC employs 60 research and education staff as a not-for-profit unit
    of the Henry H. Kessler Foundation with a 40 million dollar endowment,
    located in West Orange, New Jersey (40 minutes from New York City). In
    addition, KMRREC has major federal support for its research and training
    programs from NIH, NIDRR, American Heart Association, National Multiple
    Sclerosis Society, and other extraumural funding agencies. Start-up
    funding as well as annual support for the program has been established
    and will include salary for faculty, students, laboratory space and
    equipment.

    KMRREC is located within the internationally known Kessler Institute for
    Rehabilitation (recently ranked 4th in US News and World Report for
    rehabilitation hospitals) and the Department of Physical Medicine and
    Rehabilitation of UMDNJ – The New Jersey Medical School, considered to
    be one of the top academic rehabilitation medicine departments in the
    United States. Access to large adult clinical populations such as
    stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis,
    amputation and musculoskeletal disorders is available.

    The successful candidate should have a track record of research
    leadership, external funding and publication. Faculty appointments at
    UMDNJ and NJIT would be made, commensurate with level of experience and
    previous academic rank for the Director, as well as other engineering
    staff.
