    Research Position: R&D Project Engineer
    Rehabilitation Engineering Service
    National Rehabilitation Hospital, Washington, D.C.

    The Rehabilitation Engineering Service at the National Rehabilitation Hospital
    in Washington, DC is currently seeking an R&D Project Engineer.

    Qualifications include an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering,
    Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or comparable field. Desired skills
    and experience include the following:

    * Software development using C/C++, Visual Basic, LabVIEW, Java, XML
    * Virtual Reality programming using World Toolkit (or other similar VR package)
    * Circuit design and fabrication
    * Mechanical design and fabrication
    * User interface design and human factors

    Excellent written and spoken communication skills are required and experience
    working as part of multi-disciplinary R&D project teams is desired.

    The R&D Project Engineer will participate in federally-funded research and
    development projects that address applications of technology to problems of
    individuals with disabilities. The NRH Rehabilitation Engineering Service is
    currently home to two center grants:
    * The Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center on Telerehabilitation (funded
    by the U.S. Department of Education's National Institute on Disability and
    Rehabilitation Research) investigates the delivery of rehabilitative services to
    remote locations using multimedia and communication technologies
    * The Assistive Technology and Neuroscience Research Center (funded by the U.S.
    Army Medical Research and Materiel Command) focuses on the adaptation and
    development of novel technologies to assistive devices and medical
    rehabilitation.
    Projects are carried out in collaboration with members of other research and
    clinical disciplines, as well as with colleagues from both academia and
    industry. Disabilities addressed include spinal cord injury, brain injury,
    stroke, autistic disorder and other conditions affecting human function.
