  • PREVENTING OSTEOPOROSIS

Can anyone provide references on the economic and social value of providing
preventative treatment (such as calcium supplements in the diet and hormonal
treatment) for preventing or reducing osteoporosis among older women (or men
    for that matter)?

If so, has anyone obtained any data on the possibility that this could
reduce the incidence or severity of back injuries amongst older workers? The
Australian Government in its wisdom only subsidises medication for
osteoporosis after it has caused major injury. Does anyone know of any place
where a more logical preventive approach has proved beneficial? If so, have
    the cost benefits been analysed?
