Ph.D. student vacancy
University of Twente, Institute for Biomedical Technology (BMTI)
MOBILITY SUPPORT AND MOTOR CONTROL TRAINING IN STROKE PATIENTS
USING ELECTRICAL STIMULATION
Starting date: as soon as possible
DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT
The objective of the Ph.D. research is to investigate
- the potential of electrical neuromuscular stimulation for functional support
and training of motor control in stroke patients, specifically in the area of
mobility.
- the interaction of neuromuscular stimulation with the impaired physiological
motor control in stroke subjects.
The research is part of the neuralPRO research training network, financed from the
EU Human Potential program and will involve close cooperation with several
European partners.
REQUIRED BACKGROUND OF PH.D. STUDENT:
- The candidate should have an M.Sc. in one of the following fields: Biomedical,
Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or Movement Sciences/Physical Therapy.
- The candidate should have background in several of the following fields:
Biomedical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Human Movement Sciences,
Neurophysiology. He/she should be interested and willing to supplement
knowledge in the other fields.
- national of an EU state (non-Dutch) or national of a state associated to the EU
below the age of 34 (requirement in the EU Human Potential program)
Candidates should contact Prof. Peter H. Veltink,
sending a short application letter and CV:
