    POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP
    IN
    PERCEPTUAL – MOTOR CO-ORDINATION AND CONTROL
    at
    THE MANCHESTER METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY

    DEPARTMENT OF EXERCISE AND SPORT SCIENCE


    (Two Year Fixed Term Contract with the possibility of extension for two more years:
    in total four years)


    OUTLINE OF POST
    The Department research is based on the three main disciplines of Exercise and Sport Science:
    Biomechanics, Physiology and Psychology.

    You will be responsible to the recently appointed Professor in Perceptual–Motor Development

    or +44-161-247-5532) and work closely with the Research Programme Leaders of
    Psychology (Professor Keith Davids), Physiology (Professor Tony Sargeant), Biomechanics
    (Professor Alberto Minetti) and Active Life Span Research (Professor Marco Narici), in
    developing research relating to perceptual–motor coordination and control, ageing and motor
    system disuse. You will also contribute to the formulation of grant applications to support such
    work.

    The post is available from April 2001. Start date can be negotiated, but there is a strong
    preference for the appointment to be taken up by September 2001.

    GRADE OF POST/SALARY RANGE
    Salary Scale: Research B £15,737 - £24,011
    (Starting salary dependent upon qualifications and experience)

    PERSON SPECIFICATION
    Essential Characteristics
    The person appointed would be expected to have the following qualities:
    APhD in the field of Sport and Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Psychology or a cognate
    area
    Anestablished research record in the field of Perceptual-Motor Co-ordination and Control
    or a related area

    Desirable Characteristics
    It would be desirable if the person appointed had the following qualities:
    Experienceof research in clinical settings
    Experienceof teaching in Higher Education
    Demonstrableability to establish international collaborations
    Experienceof supervising postgraduate research students
    Selfmotivation and organisational skills
    The ability to work independently and as a member of a team
