Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children (TSRHC) is accepting applications for Director of its Movement Science Lab. This is an excellent opportunity for career advancement for someone who has been a director, or assistant director of a gait lab. Equipment includes 8 Vicon Motion Systems MCams, 2 AMTI Force plates, a 10 channel EMG system, a Biodex Isokinetic system, a Cosmed K4b2 Portable Gas Exchange system, and a Novel Emed pedobarograph plate.
The Director will coordinate the clinical and research activities of the Lab, and make recommendations to Administration regarding equipment and staff.
Among the qualities desired in the Director are an interest in:
· Assisting clinicians in the characterization, diagnosis, and treatment of orthopaedic and related neuromuscular disorders.
· Mentoring and teaching junior lab staff in order to develop their capabilities to the fullest.
· Working closely with clinicians and other hospital staff on research projects, providing advice and leadership in their design, execution, and analysis.
· Finding better ways of evaluating human movement and muscle function, and assessing the effectiveness of clinical interventions on patients.
· Working with pediatric patients and their problems.
· Interacting positively and effectively with staff at all levels.
Among the qualifications for the Director position are:
· Master's degree required, PhD preferred, in a field relevant to movement science.
· Excellent computer skills, particularly in the modeling of human movement.
· Minimum of five (5) years of experience in patient-related aspects of biomechanical measurement and analysis, resulting in publications in peer-reviewed journals.
· Recent experience with Vicon systems.
· At least one year of supervisory experience in a gait lab.
TSRHC has been providing free care to patients for over 75 years, and is not part of a managed care system. For this reason, long-term follow-up studies can be performed without concern about insurance reimbursement. While staff are encouraged to seek outside funding for research, funds for research are readily available from the Hospital Research Fund.
The Director will potentially have the opportunity to bring in one or more staff members. There is also the possibility of a faculty appointment at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School at Dallas, depending upon qualifications.
