  • Orthopaedic Position

    Dear Biomch-L Colleagues,

My department is currently looking for candidates who are qualified
for the position of Assistant Professor in Orthopaedic Engineering
(tenure track) and I am writing to solicit you help in our
    endeavor.

The candidate should have experience in Biomechanics or
Biomaterials with a Ph.D. or anticipated doctoral degree in
Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field. We anticipate
that the successful candidate will develop an independently funded
research program. The Orthopaedic Engineer's research will form
the basis for interactions with clinical and research faculty and
for teaching both in the Department of Orthopaedics and
Rehabilitation and in other departments throughout the University.
We would prefer to select a candidate who will be eligible for a
joint appointment in the Department of Biomedical Engineering.
Currently the department's research encompasses spinal cord injury,
musculoskeletal function including gait analysis, bone induction in
conjunction with prosthetic implants, and biochemical analysis of
    extracellular matrix.

Excellent facilities are currently available for gait analysis and
for research on cellular and molecular biology. The successful
candidate will be given the opportunity to discuss how he or she
would establish a very strong research program since the
appropriate laboratory space and start-up funds for equipment will
    be made available.

I would be very grateful if you could bring this opportunity to the
attention of strong students or postdoctoral fellows who are
qualified for the position. The job announcement follows:

    Orthopaedic Engineering

The Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at the University
of Virginia School of Medicine is seeking candidates for a tenure
track position at the Assistant Professor level. Suitable
candidates will have the opportunity for a joint appointment in the
School's Department of Biomedical Engineering. Laboratory space,
with appropriate equipment, will be provided in the Orthopaedic
Research Laboratory. The position requires a strong, independent
research program with some teaching responsibilities.
Collaborations with the department's clinical and research staff
will be encouraged. Candidates with a Ph.D. degree in Engineering
should submit an application and three letters of recommendation
    sent separately to:

    Dr. G.J Wang
Chairman, Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation,
University of Virginia Health Sciences Center, Box 159,
    Charlottesville, VA 22908
Candidates who are still conducting research for their dissertation
should indicate when they expect to graduate. The University of
Virginia is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.

If you would like any further information, please do not hesitate
to contact me, either via e-mail, or at the numbers indicated
    below.
