Position Announcement
Orthopedic Biomechanics
Rank: Assistant Professor, tenure track.
Starting date: September, 2002
Qualifications and Responsibilities: Applicants must have a doctoral degree
and postdoctoral experience in biomechanics with training in orthopedics,
rehabilitation, and/or mathematical modeling of the musculoskeletal system.
The potential to develop and sustain an innovative, rigorous, and externally
funded research program and to form collaborative links with orthopedic
clinicians in the community are important selection criteria. The applicant
should have sufficient expertise and qualifications to teach undergraduate
and graduate courses in biomechanics and/or clinical biomechanics and will
have the opportunity to develop new courses in his or her area of
specialization. Other responsibilities include supervision of student
research, including advising master’s theses, serving on doctoral
dissertation committees, academic counseling of undergraduate and graduate
students, service on faculty committees, and other duties as appropriate.
General Information: The Department of Exercise and Movement Science (EMS)
offers a multidisciplinary program dedicated to understanding the responses
of human physiological systems to aging, development, injury, disease, and
training. Current faculty research strengths include the biomechanics and
neural control of movement, cardiovascular and muscle physiology, and
injury-induced musculoskeletal adaptation. The department offers an
undergraduate degree that emphasizes the development of students interested
in pursuing medicine and health science careers, a master’s program in
athletic training, and master’s and Ph.D. degrees in each specialized
subdiscipline.
