    Position Announcement -- Senior Technician

    DESCRIPTION

    A Senior Research Technician is sought for the Biomechanics Laboratory at
    the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. The successful candidate
    will work with a team of Research Engineers and support our current research
    projects by assisting in the conduct of experiments as well as assisting in
    the management of our laboratory facilities.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Mechanical Testing: equipment scheduling; preparation of specimens
    and equipment for testing; carrying out procedures assigned and supervised
    by the Research Engineers to assist with testing; operating computer for
    data collection.
    2. Data Maintenance: reduction of the majority of raw data collected in
    the lab to the appropriate numerical, analyzable form and orderly
    maintenance of unreduced data. familiarity with word processing and
    spreadsheet methods
    3. Assist in the development of testing instrumentation.
    4. Documentation of laboratory protocols and procedures.
    5. Record Keeping: recording of cadaveric specimen info; x-ray
    documentation of cadaveric specimens.
    6. Maintenance of the Lab: clean, monitor and provide for a safe lab
    environment; maintenance of all laboratory instruments in working order and
    safe condition;. maintenance of inventory of supplies; perform routine
    equipment maintenance and repairs under the supervision of the Research
    Engineers.
    7. Procurement and preparation of lab materials and equipment.
    8. Provide assistance to part-time staff, students, clinicians and
    researchers who utilize the laboratory space and equipment.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    * Bachelor or Associates degree in mechanical, electrical or related
    engineering field
    * course work in experimentation and technical drawing preferred
    * comfortable working with cadaveric specimens
    * knowledge of personal computers
    * ability to read and generate procedures and experimental protocols
    * familiarity with mechanical lab equipment and data acquisition programs
    * articulate with good organizational skills and ability to manage several
    projects simultaneously
    * attentive to detail.
