    health science specialist (Biomechanist) (2 vacancies)

    Full-Time (80 hours)

    Duties: The incumbent is responsible for all daily operation of equipment
    and testing involving the Gait Laboratory; other duties include patient
    scheduling and set-up for gait and work evaluations; calibration and
    operation of computers, high speed video cameras, force/plate pedals,
    electromyographic systems, isokinetic dynamometers; attends Falls and
    Wheelchair Clinics, and takes responsibility for patient scheduling;
    performs administrative tasks such as: ordering of equipment and supplies,
    coordinating patient appointments with other departments; maintaining
    patient records.

    Qualifications: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in
    an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree
    that included a major field of study in related disciplines appropriate to
    the position, i.e., physiology, biomechanics, anatomy, physics, kinesiology;
    or combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with
    knowledge of one or more of these sciences equivalent to 24 semester hours
    in the major field of study or four years of appropriate experience that
    demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of
    these sciences equivalent to a major in the field plus one year of
    specialized experience (which is equivalent to the GS-7 in the Federal
    Service) being responsible for operation of equipment and testing involving
    a Gait Laboratory; doing patient scheduling and set-up for gait and work
    evaluations; calibrating and operation of computers, high speed video
    cameras, force/plate pedals, electromyographic systems, isokinetic
    dynamometers; and taking responsibility for patient scheduling; perform
    administrative tasks such as: ordering of equipment and supplies,
    coordinating patient appointments with other departments; maintaining
    patient records.

    Education Substitute: Two full years of progressively higher level graduate
    education or a master's or equivalent graduate degree in an accredited
    college or university that included a major field of study in biomechanics,
    physiology, anatomy, physics, kinesiology; or related disciplines
    appropriate to the position.

    Specialized Experience: Specialized Experience is defined as practical
    experience that prepared the incumbent with the specific knowledge, skills,
    and abilities (KSA's) to accomplish the duties of the position stated above
    and that is relevant to the position. This experience could have been
    gained as a group leader or counselor in recreation programs, teachers' aide
    in physical education programs.
    On a separate attachment describe your experience as it relates to each
    factor listed below.
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities and other Characteristic to be considered in
    evaluation qualification are as follows:
    I. Ability to operate, calibrate and maintain equipment (list
    equipment).
    II. Ability to perform administrative functions.
    III. Ability to communicate with a variety of individuals from various
    backgrounds and levels of understanding.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Qualification determination for jobs announced
    herein are based on the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and VA approved
