SITTING POSTURE
A PhD Studentship is available to investigate the interactions which
take place between the main seated postural variables including hip
angle, knee angle, pelvic orientation and spinal configuration.
Pilot projects have established the feasibility of this study, using a
Vicon gait analysis system and associated instrumentation. Further test
equipment requires to be designed. The subsequent experimental work will
primarily involve able-bodied people and will require extensive data
analysis.
This project has applications in improving seating design and the
clinical provision of postural support for people with disabilities.
The project is based in Tayside Orthopaedic & Rehabilitation Technology
Centre, which is one of the leading NHS Centres for the provision of
seating.
The Studentship is for a full-time position for a 3-year period covering
fees and a bursary consistent with EPSRC rates.
Candidates should have a 1st or 2nd class Hons degree in Engineering,
Physics, Maths or related subjects. Experience in Bioengineering would
be beneficial.
