    PhD Studentship

    In

    Rehabilitation Technology/Bioengineering
Department of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery
    University of Dundee

    SITTING POSTURE
A PhD Studentship is available to investigate the interactions which
take place between the main seated postural variables including hip
angle, knee angle, pelvic orientation and spinal configuration.

Pilot projects have established the feasibility of this study, using a
Vicon gait analysis system and associated instrumentation. Further test
equipment requires to be designed. The subsequent experimental work will
primarily involve able-bodied people and will require extensive data
    analysis.

This project has applications in improving seating design and the
clinical provision of postural support for people with disabilities.

The project is based in Tayside Orthopaedic & Rehabilitation Technology
Centre, which is one of the leading NHS Centres for the provision of
    seating.

The Studentship is for a full-time position for a 3-year period covering
fees and a bursary consistent with EPSRC rates.

Candidates should have a 1st or 2nd class Hons degree in Engineering,
Physics, Maths or related subjects. Experience in Bioengineering would
    be beneficial.

Applicants should sent a CV with covering letter to Dr Geoff Bardsley,
TORT Centre, Ninewells Hospital and Medical School, Dundee DD1 9SY,
    Scotland, UK.
    Email address – geoff@tortc.tuht.scot.nhs.uk

Closing date for receipt of applications – 9th November 2001
