    The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, a Northwestern University
    affiliated academic rehabilitation hospital, is pleased to offer the
    Brinson Foundation Stroke Research Fellowship. This fellowship is designed
    to help train postdoctoral researchers to undertake intensive research in
    the broad area of stroke mechanisms, pathophysiology, movement biomechanics
    and rehabilitation, under the supervision of one or more of the research
    faculty of the RIC.


    Job Description:
    Potential areas of research training include, but are not limited to:
    1. Pathophysiology of stroke and its sequelae
    2. Brain imaging in stroke, and the course of rehabilitation
    interventions
    3. Impaired movement kinematics and controls
    4. Disturbances of reflex function
    5. Robotics applications for diagnosis and treatment of motor
    impairments in either the
    upper or lower extremity
    6. Clinical research studies include drug trials evaluating
    restoration of function, prevention
    of complications, and improvement of speech and neglect
    7. Outcome studies to evaluate the effects of therapeutic
    interventions for stroke, and develop tools
    for assessment of long-term outcomes

    The total award consists of $50,000/yr for a minimum of 2 years. The
    amount includes the costs of fringe benefits, and a travel allowance.

    Candidates should apply by sending a letter (or email) to Dr. Derek
    Kamper, in which they describe their recent research activities, and
    outline their future research interests. Applicants should also identify
    program areas of stroke research that appear to be of interest. Please
    include a recent CV, and a list of 3-4 referees.

    Applications are due by December 17th. The start date of the position is
    negotiable, but the fellowship should be activated within 6 months. RIC is

    Qualifications:
    Ph.D. applicants will have been awarded a Ph.D. within the past 5 years,
    typically training in engineering, neuroscience, or related
    disciplines. M.D. applicants will have completed residency in Physical
    Medicine and Rehabilitation, Neurology, or other related disciplines.
