    Neuromuscular Research Laboratory
    Faculty Position

    The Neuromuscular Research Laboratory (NMRL) of the School of Health and
    Rehabilitation Sciences and the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the
    University of Pittsburgh, and UPMC Health Systems is seeking candidates for
    a full-time faculty position for the Greg Norman Assistant/Associate
    Professor of Biomechanics and Sports Medicine. The NMRL was established in
    1990 to perform comprehensive neuromuscular and biomechanics research
    related to sports and exercise injury prevention, treatment, and
    rehabilitation.

    Candidates for the position must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in
    biomechanics and/or biomedical, mechanical or other related engineering
    discipline. Research background in analysis of joint kinematics, EMG,
    computer programming and human modeling is required.

    Successful applicants at the Assistant Professor level will be expected to
    pursue independent research as well as collaborate with current faculty.
    Guidance and help will be provided to successfully seek extramural funding.
    More senior candidates are expected to have demonstrated a record of
    original research and funding.

    It is also expected that successful candidates will teach regularly
    scheduled courses and supervise graduate students.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    * Senior research scientist/Laboratory
    coordinator
    * Work with Laboratory Director and
    Orthopaedic Sports Medicine faculty in planning, designing, and conducting
    applied orthopaedic and sports medicine research experimentation related to
    musculoskeletal pathology
    * Design and develop protocols for assessment
    of human sports performance
    * Contribute to scholarly activities of the
    laboratory, department, and school
    * Manage and seek new laboratory resources
    * Instruction and supervision of graduate and
    medical students, post doctoral and research fellows

    FACILITIES:
    The Neuromuscular Research Laboratory of the Musculoskeletal
    Research Center is under the auspices of the Department of Orthopaedic
    Surgery and the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, University of
    Pittsburgh. Located within the UPMC Sports Performance Complex that houses
    training facilities for the Pittsburgh Steelers and University of Pittsburgh
    Football organizations, and the UPMC Center For Sports Medicine, the
    laboratory is a 3000+ sq/ft facility capable of state-of-the-art human
    performance testing and applied orthopaedic and sports medicine research.
    Instrumentation within the lab include: Noraxon16 channel surface and fine
    wire telemetry EMG system; 6-camera (120Hz) Peak Performance motion analysis
    system; Biodex Stability System, Neurocom, and KAT balance/postural control
    assessment devices; 3 Bertec/Kistler force plates; Biodex System 3
    Isokinetic system; proprioception testing devices; and reflex testing
    devices.
