Professional Opportunity: Engineer
The Human Performance Laboratory at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Washington University Medical Center is looking for a full-time engineer to join a multi-disciplinary team of professionals conducting research (75%) and performing clinical evaluations (25%). Major responsibilities include but are not limited to participation in: 1) collecting, processing, analyzing, and managing data, 2) maintaining laboratory equipment, 3) preparing manuscripts and grant proposals, and 4) developing patentable concepts. The successful candidate will also coordinate and train staff in the operation of laboratory equipment.
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
1) MS degree in Mechanical, Biomechanical, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent,
2) Experience with both PC and UNIX operating systems and associated software,
3) Programming skills in C++, or equivalent,
4) Experience with motion capture, force platforms, EMG systems, and dynamometers,
5) Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills,
6) Effective organizational skills with the ability to focus on a multitude of ongoing projects.
The Human Performance Laboratory staff includes: researchers, engineers, physical therapists, exercise physiologist, and support personnel. The Human Performance Laboratory analyzes the movements of patients with disabilities. Its vision is to become a world leader in the analysis of motion in both the pediatric and adult populations by providing pertinent and innovative information to the clinician, and by expanding the body of knowledge related to movements of the disabled. Goals include: analyzing quantitative information relating to the motion of patients with disabilities, evaluating the efficacy of treatments, and developing procedures and devices which improve and maintain the function of the disabled.
