Faculty Position: ERGONOMICS/HUMAN FACTORS - COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY
The Department of Environmental Health invites applications for a tenure
track position in the area of ergonomics/human factors at the Assistant
Professor level. The department has a multidisciplinary program at both the
M.S. and Ph.D. levels. Faculty members work and collaborate in the areas of
industrial hygiene, biostatistics, health physics, epidemiology and public
health, environmental and mechanistic toxicology, risk assessment, and
cancer biology. The industrial hygiene program, within which this position
would be housed, is nationally/internationally recognized and ABET-RAC
accredited. The department has a large baccalaureate program in
environmental health, and elements of ergonomics/human factors are infused
into this undergraduate curriculum with an opportunity to expand that
content.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in ongoing teaching
(graduate and undergraduate levels) and to expand the content of course
offerings in ergonomics/human factors as opportunities and the demands of
practice change. The preferred candidate would have a basic familiarity with
extramural research support mechanisms and be poised to create an
independent research program. Existing programs include the following:
Colorado Injury Control Research Center, the Occupational Health Psychology
Program, the Human Performance Laboratory (Health and Exercise Science), the
Occupational Therapy Program, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and
the High Plains Center for Agricultural Health and Safety provide rich
opportunities for collaboration.
The department supports a nationally accredited program at the undergraduate
level in environmental health. This position will support ergonomics/human
factors instruction in the undergraduate program and offer core classes in
the graduate curriculum. However, candidate expertise in the areas of
injury prevention, person-machine interface, task or tool analysis and
design, biomechanics, safety programming, risk assessment, physical hazards
assessment/control, or other areas of relevance to a comprehensive
department of environmental health is highly desirable. The successful
candidate will be expected to mentor and direct graduate students at the MS
and PhD level and to participate in devising means to actively include
undergraduate students into ongoing research/investigation efforts across
multidisciplinary programs.
The department has an applied program emphasis that provides training to
produce professionals capable of independently directing programs in
occupational/environmental health. The department currently has a NIOSH
training grant to support graduate students. The department holds a
cooperative agreement with OSHA to provide technical assistance to small
high hazard businesses, and also holds a major grant from NIOSH as a center
of agricultural health and safety. Faculty members have ample opportunity
to participate in outreach service programs, and to work in applied field
research through these programs.
The candidate must possess an earned doctoral degree in human factors,
ergonomics, industrial hygiene or a closely related field. Candidates should
