    BRUNEL UNIVERSITY

    Department of Sport Sciences

Two Lectureships within the newly formed Centre for Sports Innovation

As part of Brunel University's major research initiative in which 60 new
research-active appointments will be made, the Department of Sport
Sciences is seeking to appoint two full time research lecturers to join
its newly formed Centre for Sports Innovation with expertise in:

    * Muscle Physiology (Vacancy Reference A1291)
    * Sports Technology/Biomechanics (Vacancy Reference A130/1).

The Centre's mission is to undertake research that facilitates the
development of innovative products and services for sport and exercise
participants. The post holders will play key roles in a range of
exciting projects to develop new training equipment for elite sportsmen
    and women.

The Department of Sport Sciences is currently based on the Osterley
campus but will be moving to Uxbridge around August 2002 in order to
provide our students, staff and courses with the most up-to-date
facilities and equipment, and new opportunities to establish links with
other Departments and develop cross-disciplinary teaching and research.

It is expected that the successful candidates will have gained a PhD in
a relevant area of research and have demonstrated an ability to work
effectively within a team and produce high quality publications. The
appointments are research led and 70% of the post holder's time will be
earmarked for research. The appointments will be of fixed-term duration
    until 31 July 2007.

The salary will be within the Lecturer A scale (currently up to 20,267
per annum), plus 1583 per annum London Allowance. In addition, the
University operates a research incentive scheme through which academic
staff can earn up to a maximum of 25,000 per annum through attracting
    grant income into the University.

Further details of the posts can be discussed informally by contacting
Professor Susan Capel on Tel: 020 8891 8351 or email
    susan.capel@brunel.ac.uk.

For further particulars and an application form please call our

Details are also available on the web with on-line application
