  • Controversial topics in musculo-skeletal biomechanics

    Dear All:
We recently posted the first announcement of a event entitled
'Biomechanics in the Decade of the Bone & Joint A European Biomechanics
Event' that will be held in Brussels on 28-29 April 2002 at the Erasme
Campus of the Université Libre de Bruxelles.

    http://www.mk.dmu.ac.uk/bionet/

This event is aimed to promote the networking and the sense of community
among European researchers in the field of biomechanics. In this sense,
contrary to most scientific conferences, the event will host also a 'Get it
off your chest' session aimed to air controversial views. In order to
promote the constructive discussion, we would like to organise, later that
day, two or three discussion groups to see if from these controversial
topics it is possible to reach a consensus or to raise collective
    recommendations.

Discussing with more experienced colleagues all agreed that this type of
things must be organised in advance in order to be effective. The best way
in our opinion is to launch a call for topics and eventually anticipate
some discussion around them in order to identify those topics really
attracting the attention of the community.

Although the event is partially supported by the European Commission, and
it is aimed to produce a 'networking effect' among European researcher,
because of its nature we believe this discussion regards the biomechanics
community at large. And the only real forum for such community in our
    opinion is BIOMCH-L.

We agreed with the list moderators to post this call for discussion topics.
Such topic can be a methodological issue it may deal with applied research
or with basic research. The only constraint is that it must regards
directly on indirectly with the musculo-skeletal apparatus. If you believe
there is a particular topic in biomechanics that is controversial,
neglected although relevant, or that for any other reason requires more
attention in the future, please write directly to Marco Viceconti
supporting you proposal with a brief
    statement.

The most 'popular' topics will be posted on the BIOMCH-L list to initiate a
    discussion within the community.

    Best regards

    Marco Viceconti and Alberto Leardini
on behalf of the BIONET Consortium
