    Position: Exercise Physiology/Physical Therapy
    Contractual Period: Academic Year (9 months)
    Salary: Negotiable and competitive
    Rank: Assistant Professor (tenure-track)
    Starting Date: August 19, 2002

    Qualifications:
    1. Earned doctorate with emphasis in Physiology of Exercise
    (therapeutic exercise and rehabilitation emphasis), or
    closely related field (ABD considered).
    2. Undergraduate or graduate degree in Physical Therapy.
    3. Active research record related to physiological aspects of
    preventive and rehabilitative exercise, or related area.
    4. Post-doctoral appointment and extramural funding experience
    desirable.
    5. Teaching experience in higher education preferred.
    6. Demonstrated commitment to related scholarly/professional
    organizations.

    Responsibilities:
    1. Instruct undergraduate and graduate students in the area of
    Physiology of Exercise.
    2. Direct and advise graduate students in Physiology of Exercise.
    3. Teach in the areas of therapeutic exercise and rehabilitation,
    or related area.
    4. Contribute to development and implementation of course work
    relevant to Physical Therapy.
    5. Develop and maintain an active line of research; seek extramural
    funding.
    6. Develop and maintain liaisons with other academic units and
    nonacademic agencies.
    7. Engage in university and scholarly/professional service
    activities.

    Overview:
    The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is an urban research university
    and one of two doctoral degree-granting institutions in the University
    of Wisconsin System. The 90-acre campus is located on Milwaukee's
    northeast side near Lake Michigan. The Department of Human Kinetics
    offers BS and MS degrees in the Human Movement Sciences, a Physical
    Therapy program has been approved, and a Ph.D. program is in
    development. The BS Kinesiology Program provides academic and
    professional preparation for students entering the field of Athletic
    Training, Exercise and Fitness, Health & Fitness Management, and
    academic preparation for those intending to pursue advanced study in the
    health professions or human movement research (MS, PhD). A
    multidisciplinary Human Movement Science MS degree is offered to
    students who include, among others, practicing allied health
    professionals (e.g., ATC, OT, PT, RN, MD, DC) and educators. The
    Department also offers academic certificate programs in the following
    areas: Strength and Conditioning, Older Adult Fitness, Nutrition, and
    the Study of Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Consistent with
    the campus goal of connecting to the community, the department maintains
    a collaborative service learning partnership with the Milwaukee County
    Department on Aging that involves delivery of fitness programs through
    senior centers in the metropolitan area. Departmental
    instructional/research facilities include Biomechanics, Motor
    Control/Learning, Psychology, Sociology, Athletic Training, Exercise
    Physiology, and Human Performance Laboratories. The Exercise
    Physiology Laboratory is home to a portable metabolic system and
    designated chemistry space. The Human Performance Laboratory contains
    stress testing and pulmonary function equipment, and underwater weighing
    tank. A 10,000 square foot facility including offices and laboratories
    for Physical Therapy related research and instruction is in the design
    phase.

    5. Copies of recent, representative published research papers (up
    to three).

    position has been filled.
