The Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics at Virginia Polytechnic
Institute and State University has an opening in biomechanics for a tenure
track faculty position. The position is at the Assistant or Associate
Professor level, depending upon qualifications and
experience. Applications are sought from outstanding individuals with a
Ph.D. and superior academic and/or professional records. All areas of
biomechanics will be considered, such as (but not limited to), biosolids,
soft and/or hard tissues, biofluid mechanics, bioprosthetics, hemodynamics
and /or microcirculatory mechanics, physiologic modeling, biodynamics,
kinematics of human motion, or aerospace medicine. Many opportunities
exist for the selected faculty to engage in multidisciplinary research in
the new Center for Biomedical Engineering, which involves faculty in five
different engineering departments and the College of Veterinary
Medicine. Responsibilities include teaching at the undergraduate and
graduate levels, developing a graduate research program, directing M.S. and
Ph.D. theses, and university service.

until the position is filled. The position will begin in the 2002 academic
