    Announcement of Faculty Position for Fall 2002
    Biomechanics

    The Department of Health, Exercise, and Sport Sciences at Texas Tech
    University is seeking a tenure-track faculty member in Biomechanics.
    Individuals having an applied emphasis including exercise, sport, and
    general integrative movement applications (e.g., performance enhancement,
    injury prevention, rehabilitation, etc.) are particularly encouraged to
    apply.

    RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses and direct
    graduate students in Biomechanics. Conduct research and seek external
    funding in the area of specialization. Provide service to professional
    organizations. Responsibilities also include department, college, and
    university committee assignments.

    QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate should possess a terminal degree
    with an emphasis in biomechanics, demonstrated potential to establish a
    focused line of research to meet university research expectations, evidence
    of effective teaching, and the ability and willingness to teach Biomechanics
    and other exercise and sport science courses at the graduate and
    undergraduate levels.

    RANK AND SALARY: Assistant or Associate Professor. Salary is commensurate
    with qualifications.

    EFFECTIVE DATE OF APPOINTMENT: Appointment will be effective August 19,
    2002.

    THE DEPARTMENT AND THE UNIVERSITY: The Department of Health, Exercise, and
    Sport Sciences is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences. The Bachelor
    of Science is offered, as well as the Master of Science and the
    interdisciplinary Master of Science in Sports Health. Seven hundred and
    seventy undergraduate students are currently enrolled in programs in fitness
    and wellness promotion, physical education teacher education, movement
    studies, and health education. Approximately 60 graduate students, at
    various stages of matriculation, take advantage of specialties in motor
    behavior, exercise and sport psychology, biomechanics, exercise physiology,
    educational foundations, sport management, and sports health. Texas Tech
    University is a state-supported, coeducational institution with a student
    population of 25,000 located in the West Texas city of Lubbock. The campus
    is on a 1,839-acre tract, making it one of the largest in the nation. The
    Spanish Renaissance-style red-tile roofed buildings are surrounded by
    expansive lawns and impressive landscaping. The university offers
    opportunities not only for research and study, but also for varied cultural
    and recreational activities.
