"Improving bone / implant fixation in orthopaedic surgery"
Applications are invited for a PhD studentship in the Basic and Clinical
Biomechanics Group at the M.E. Müller Institute for Biomechanics,
University of Bern. The group comprises a multi-disciplinary research
team, focusing on orthopaedic implant evaluation, computational
biomechanics (finite element analysis) and the development of new
techniques for orthopaedic surgery. The successful applicant will join a
project developing new technologies for improving the primary fixation of
polymeric and metallic orthopaedic implants in bone.
The position is available immediately. Candidates with an MSc or
equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Materials
Science or a closely related field should apply. Experience with any of the
following would be a distinct advantage: mechanical testing equipment and
procedures, Labview, CAD and FEM software and polymer processing. A
competitive stipend is offered and will be commensurate with qualifications
and experience.
