LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER IN BIOMECHANICS
(Full time permanent post)
The Department of Exercise and Sport Science is seeking to recruit a
suitably qualified and experienced person to contribute to its undergraduate
and postgraduate teaching in Biomechanics. You will be expected to
contribute to the Department's research strategy as well as management
and administrative activities. The post is expected to be attractive to
well-qualified individuals who wish to develop their career within a large,
dynamic and supportive Department committed to excellence in teaching,
research and community activity. Teaching was judged "excellent" by a
Bioscience External Subject Review in 2000, research was rated a 5* in
the 2001 RAE, and community activities provide opportunities for students
and staff as well as generating external income. Details of the post can

The closing date for applications will be 12th February 2002 and interviews
will be held on 27th/28th February 2002. It is anticipated that the
successful candidate will take up the post in August 2002, or earlier if
possible.
OUTLINE OF POST
Teach aspects of Biomechanics to a range of students at undergraduate and
postgraduate level
Contribute to the Department's research profile by complementing and
supporting the work of existing staff in relevant areas
Contribute to the Department's management and administrative activities.
As with all posts some flexibility is required to accommodate staff and
institutional changes and developments. These are normally agreed through
an annual Professional Development and Review meeting.
GRADE OF POST/SALARY RANGE
Salary Scale: Lecturer £19,575 - £32,910 (2% increase from 1
February 2002)
(Starting salary dependent upon qualifications and experience)
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential Characteristics
The successful candidate would be expected to have the following qualities:
A PhD in Biomechanics
Demonstrable ability to teach in Higher Education at undergraduate and
postgraduate levels
A track record of research and publication in a relevant area
Demonstrable potential to contribute to the Department's management and
administrative activity including the role of Biomechanics Laboratory
Director
Desirable Characteristics
It would be desirable if the person appointed had the following qualities:
Experience of applied clinical or exercise-related biomechanics
Demonstrable ability to work effectively as part of a team
BASES accreditation or the equivalent
A proven interest in the use of electromyography in fundamental or applied
contexts.
