Dear Colleagues,
I am working on an application for using human subjects in a
case-control study. Our Internal Review Board (IRB) told me that I
should let the cases to ask potential controls to contact our research
team rather than our research team contacting the potential controls.
This means that we could not actively recruite control subjects at all.
For a case-control study, if we don't actively recruite control
subjects, we will have essentially no control on the number and quality
of the control subjects. I would like to know if the IRBs of other
institutions in US have the same request for this kind of situation and
what are the possible solutions to this problem before I discuss this
with our IRB. Appreciate any help you can give to me. Thanks.
