The Balance Research Laboratory (BRL) in conjunction with the Neuroscience
Research Group at the University of Lethbridge are seeking a highly
motivated individual to act in the capacity of Research Coordinator. The BRL
is involved with studies of balance, locomotion, and motor impairment among
the elderly and patients with Parkinson's disease.
Description of Position: This position will include:
· organizing and coordinating research studies related to the effects
of anxiety on balance and movement performance among the elderly and
patients with Parkinson's Disease.
· recruitment of study participants
· supervision and direction of personnel in the BRL
· liaising with neurologists and clinical personnel
· data collection and analysis
· preparation of ethics proposals and manuscript submissions
· assisting the director in various other aspects of this research.
Qualifications for this Position: The ideal candidate should hold a Masters
degree in Kinesiology (or related field) and have technical expertise and
experience in the application of biomechanical techniques for the study of
human movement. Strong computer skills are essential and computer
programming skills (MATLAB, LabView) are a definite asset
Salary Range: This is a 12 month position and holds the possibility for
extension for another 12 month period. The starting salary for this position
is $34,800 CDN (negotiable depending on qualifications and experience).
Anticipated start date is September 1, 2002. Funding for this position is
provided by the Medical Services Incorporated Foundation of Alberta and the
Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research.
Other information: The Balance Research Laboratory is housed with state of
the art equipment for the collection and analysis of human movement,
including a 6 camera Peak Motus (Realtime) motion analysis system, 2 Bertec
Forceplates, Bortec and Delsys EMG systems and multiple PC workstations.
The city of Lethbridge is located in Southern Alberta, approximately 1.5
hours from the U.S. border and 2 hours south of the city of Calgary and
within view of the Rocky Mountains. World class skiing and hiking facilities
are located within 3 hours of the city.
