    ABC4: Fourth Australasian Biomechanics Conference
    November 28-30, 2002
    La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia

On behalf of the convening committee, I extend an invitation to you
to attend ABC4, the Fourth Australasian Biomechanics Conference of
the Australian and New Zealand Society of Biomechanics. This will be
an excellent opportunity for biomechanists and other researchers to
share their findings and benefit from the knowledge and experience of
like minded scientists. The conference venue is a modern,
state-of-the-art facility which offers excellent resources for
presenters and comfort for delegates. The scientific program promises
to be excellent. I look forward to an engaging and stimulating ABC4.

The conference venue is the West Lecture Theatre Complex at the
Bundoora Campus of La Trobe University. The facilities include
    state-of-the-art audio-visual facilities and a spacious adjacent
foyer for the trade exhibit, poster displays and delegate catering.

    Highlights of the Scientific Program:
Each day of the conference will feature a symposium on a special
topic as well as free papers and poster displays.

Symposium on the Effects of Aging on Balance and Gait (Thursday, November 28)
Keynote Speaker: Dr Keith Hill, Co-director, Falls and Balance
Clinic, National Ageing Research Institute. "Biomechanical, Motor
Control and Public Health Perspetives on Gait and Posture".

Symposium on Clinical Gait Analysis (Friday, November 29)
Keynote Speakers: Professor H. Kerr Graham, Professor of
Orthopaedics, Royal Children's Hospital. "Clinical Gait Analysis:
What have the engineers ever done for us?"
Dr. Richard Baker, Biomedical Engineer, RCH. "Clinical Gait Analysis:
    Life Before Computers".

Symposium on muscle and movement efficiency (Saturday, November 30)
Keynote Speaker: Professor Collin Gibbs, Department of Physiology,
Monash University. "Striated Muscle Energetics and Efficiency".

    Call for Abstracts:
Papers related to any area of biomechanics , including the symposium
topics, are invited. This is an especially good opportunity for
student researchers to present their work in a friendly and
    supportive forum.
Investigators may choose to present either a podium or poster
presentation. Both modes of presentation will receive equal weighting
in the conference proceedings. Reports of work-in-progress will be
    accepted for poster presentations.
Investigators who wish to present papers at the conference should
download the abstract proforma and abstract submission form from the
conference web site. Completed abstracts should be submitted to the
Convenor no later than September 15, 2002.

    Registration Fees:
    ANZSB member: $275.00
    Non-member: $297.00
    Student: $165.00
    Day Registration: $88.00
    Additional Banquet tickets: $60.00

All prices are inclusive of 10% GST. Full registration and student
registration includes conference proceedings, morning and afternoon
teas and lunches each day, a cocktail reception on Thursday and the
conference dinner on Saturday. Daily registrations include daily
catering and proceedings but do not include the conference dinner.
All presenting authors must register for the conference no later than
November 8, 2002. Failure to do so will result in papers being
withdrawn from the program and from the proceedings.

    Important Dates:
    Submission of Abstracts: September 15
    Notification of Authors October 1
    Speaker Registration deadline: November 8
    Conference Dates: November 28-30
