Job Posting: Research Engineer - Orthopedics
The Orthopedics Division of a major US Medical Device Company is looking for
a qualified Materials Engineer
to join their Advanced Technology Group as a Research Engineer.
Position Summary:
The research engineer will apply a basic understanding of materials and
engineering towards conducting laboratory analysis of raw materials,
in-process materials and final products. As a member of the Advanced
Technical Group, they will provide technical input to implant material
selection, design, and manufacturing operations. The research engineer will
provide materials and process related engineering services and technical
advisory support to the Business Units, Operations, Regulatory Affairs, and
Quality Assurance. Project management skills will be utilized in developing
new materials and processes for the company's current, under-development and
future products.
In addition to basic engineering functions, the research engineer will also
participate in conducting risk analysis, failure modes and effects analysis
(FMEA), and verification and validation logic (VVL) input to the Design
Control process.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Characterization of materials by standard methodology (XRD, FT-IR,
SEM) and by developing non-standard testing protocols as appropriate.
* Participate in teams developing innovative orthopedic products and
processes.
* Ensure that all documentation is maintained to the extent necessary
to allow accurate replication of a given test and to allow demonstration
that its completion was consistent with the core company values. Ensure
that all test articles are processed per protocol and representative of the
final product.
* Interpret raw data, including the results of statistical analyses,
and compare findings to prior studies reported internally or in the
literature.
* Generate technical memos and reports including those necessary to
support regulatory submissions.
* The individual is expected to be able to prepare test articles and
conduct his/her own testing as complexity and time demand.
* Responsible for maintaining laboratory supplies, equipment and work
flow.
Job Requirements:
* Bachelors degree in Materials, Biomedical or a related Engineering
Field, minimum.
* Laboratory experience.
* Demonstrated Project Management skills.
* Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
* Proficiency in PC based applications, including Word and Excel.
