Dear Colleague,
Attached is the Call for Abstracts for the 2003 GCMAS Meeting in Wilmington,
DE. In addition, please note the following opportunities to expand our
clinical testing capabilities and have our laboratories to meet the needs of
more orthopaedic subspecialties:
1. Consideration is being given to a symposium on the topic of
foot marker systems that would review current systems, their limitations,
and the potential for a standard foot marker system. This is important for
both our clinical and research activities. This is an opportunity to
provide standardized, more comprehensive evaluations of individuals with
foot disorders, to assess alterations associated with treatment and to
provide long-term follow-up of these individuals. If you have an interest
in this please let me know early on at otisj@hss.edu so that you may
contribute to its organization. Whether you have considerable experience in
this area and or limited experience, you have something to offer those of us
with none.
2. There is an increasing number of laboratories involved with
upper extremity evaluation. Consideration is being given to a session
devoted to this topic. Please contact the program chairman at otisj@hss.edu
if you would be interested in contributing to this session or if you have
any comments or suggestions with regard to this topic and a session.

You are invited to participate in the 8th Annual Meeting of the Gait and
Clinical Movement Analysis (GCMA) Society, hosted by The Alfred I. DuPont
Hospital for Children and the University of Delaware. This is the first
call for abstracts for the meeting, which will be held May 7 - 10, 2003, in
Wilmington, Delaware, USA.
Scientific abstracts in all areas of gait, posture, balance, and movement
analysis are being solicited for podium or poster presentation.
Abstracts are encouraged in all areas of movement analysis, including, but
not restricted to:
>> Analytical approaches to enhance the interpretation of movement data
>> Evaluation of treatments for movement disorders
>> New techniques for analysis of movement
>> Neurologic basis of movement disorders
>> Analysis of musculoskeletal impairments and movement
A special invitation is extended to all members of other international gait
societies to attend this meeting and to share their research expertise. As
a courtesy, any active member of the following societies will be eligible
for the same registration rate as a member of GCMAS at this conference.
>> European Society for Motion Analysis in Adults and Children (ESMAC)
>> Societa Italiana di Analisi del Movimento in Clinica (SIAMOC)
>> International Society for Posture and Gait Research (ISPGR)

Note for students: The Gait and Clinical Movement Analysis Society presents
a Young Investigator Award at each annual meeting. To be eligible for this
Award, student status must be verified and the student must present their
work at the meeting. The Society intends to apply to the Whitaker
Foundation for funds to support student travel to the meeting. Although
such funding is not guaranteed, we encourage students to submit their work
and make plans to attend the meeting.
GENERAL ABSTRACT AND TUTORIAL
SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
All abstracts and tutorial proposals must be submitted via the website: (
http://www.pedsref.org/gait2003 ) on or
before October 4, 2002.Any documents received after that date will not be
reviewed. Two files of each submission should be uploaded in Microsoft Word
format. Please name your abstract according to the last name of the first
author (e.g. for an abstract submitted by James C. Otis, name it otis.doc.
In the case of two or more abstracts from the same first author, add an
integer at the end of the first author's name, e.g. otis1.doc, otis2.doc,
etc.).
The second uploaded file must be a blinded copy of the first without the
names and affiliations of the authors. Add a "b underscore" before the name
(e.g. b_otis.doc). The blinded files will be renamed with an identification
number to facilitate the blind review process. Please note that the
electronic submission of scanned abstracts (i.e. image data files) and faxed
submissions are not acceptable.
Abstract Submissions
All accepted abstracts will be eligible for the annually presented awards of
Best Paper and Best Poster (and Best Student Paper for students). All
accepted abstracts will also be published in a special issue of Gait &
Posture. Due to the publisher's requirements, the page format and
submission deadline must be respected. Abstracts are limited to two pages.
The text (and any figures or diagrams) must be contained in a 160 mm x 225
mm (6.3 in x 8.8 in) area on each page. Use 27.9 mm (1.1 inch) margins for
all sides. Use Times New Roman 12pt. (throughout the abstract) and do not
use page numbers. Use left justification, single space and no columns.
The first page of the abstract must include the title of the paper, the
author(s), and the name and location of their institution(s) or
affiliation(s). The abstract must be divided into the following sections:
Introduction, Statement of Clinical Significance, Methodology, Results,
Discussion, References, and Acknowledgments. Authors must ensure that the
text and figures are legible when reduced to half size. References should
list first and second author, or first author only followed by et al., for
three or more authors, journal, volume (issue): page numbers, and year. The
Program Committee reserves the right to exclude abstracts that do not meet
these criteria.

Tutorial Submissions
Proposals are also invited for two tutorials to be offered on Wednesday
afternoon, May 7, 2003. Each tutorial should be no more than two hours in
length. Please submit a summary of the proposed tutorial and an outline of
its format, including the topic(s) to be covered by each instructor and the
time allotted for each topic. If the proposal is accepted, the summary will
be included in the conference registration materials. It should include the
title, instructor(s), purpose, intended audience, prerequisite knowledge,
and a description of the course content (200 words). The tutorial summaries
and outlines will not be published in Gait & Posture. Please be advised
that the instructor(s) must provide a tutorial handout to the Education
Committee in advance of the meeting (so that copies can be made available to
participants). GCMA will cover the registration fee for one presenter of
each tutorial selected by the Program and Education Committees for
presentation.
