    Department of Orthopaedic Surgery
    University of Pittsburgh

Two research fellowships are available in our Hand and Upper Extremity Laboratory in Musculoskeletal Research Center of University of Pittsburgh. The research focus of our Upper Extremity Laboratory is to utilize multidisciplinary approaches to study carpal tunnel syndrome. Carpal tunnel syndrome is the most frequently reported upper-extremity musculoskeletal disorders, and is a widely recognized debilitating neuropathy affecting millions of individuals. The current and prospective research areas include neuromuscular control of the hand and fingers, hand motor function, kinematics and kinetics of the wrist, morphometry of the carpal tunnel, and molecular mechanisms of flexor tendinitis and tenosynovitis. To learn more about our research center, please visit our web site at http://www.pitt.edu/~msrc/.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The candidate will work on projects related to biomechanics and neuromuscular control of the hand. Expected work includes, but is not limited to: programming with LabVIEW, Matlab, and C Language, participating experimental design, performing experiments with human subjects, collecting data, processing signals, visualizing grasping mechanics, biomechanical and mathematical modeling, analyzing and interpreting data, monitoring Institutional Review Board (IRB) compliance issues, and helping prepare manuscripts and grants.

QUALIFICATIONS: A recent graduate with PhD or MS in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, biomechanics, kinesiology, or other closely related disciplines, and strong interest in working in biomechanics and neuromuscular control of the hand.

    SALARY: Commensurate with experience.

STARTING TIME AND LENGTH: The positions are to be filled as soon as possible. One-year initial period will be granted with progressive extension for a second year.

APPLICATION: Candidates should direct inquiries and application to Zong-Ming Li, PhD (see contact info below). To apply, email or fax a cover letter with a statement of interests, a curriculum vita, and the names of three individuals who can be contacted as references.
