ANNOUNCEMENT & FINAL CALL FOR ABSTRACTS (Deadline extended to September
16, 2002)
Research Retreat II
ACL INJURIES: THE GENDER BIAS
Presented by
Kentucky Sports Medicine Clinic & Joyner Sportsmedicine Institute
April 4th & 5th, 2003
Hyatt Regency Lexington Hotel
401 West High Street
Lexington, Kentucky
859-253-1234
MISSION:
It has been well recognized that female athletes are at significantly
greater risk of injuring their ACL compared to their male counterparts.
The reasons for this difference are not entirely clear. However, there
are a number of directions currently being investigated including causes
related to structural, biomechanical, neuromuscular and hormonal
factors. This is the second research retreat on this topic. We hope to
follow-up with the ongoing research in the area as well as discuss new
research directives aimed at understanding the gender bias in the
incidence of ACL injuries. It is hoped that the information provided
will make a valuable contribution to the existing body of literature and
continue to strengthen the foundation upon which optimal prevention and
rehabilitation strategies can be developed.
FORMAT:
The format will incorporate one-hour presentations by the keynote
speakers with group discussions to follow. In addition, there will be
time allotted for a number of 15-minute podium presentations of research
relating to gender bias in ACL injuries.
