Provide biomechanics service, education, and consultation for elite athletes
and coaches as a member of the Coaching and Sport Sciences Division. Assist
Physiology with
service for elite athletes and coaches.
1. Design, prepare, and implement biomechanical testing protocols; assume
sole responsibility for conducting biomechanical testing sessions.
2. Analyze, prepare, and disseminate test results to coaches and athletes.
3. Support coach and athlete education programs through the development,
preparation, and dissemination of presentation materials at clinics,
workshops,
and seminars.
4. Participate in sport performance consultation activities with coaches and
athletes.
5. Maintain a functioning laboratory area, instrumentation and equipment,
and adequate supplies.
6. Assist in the acquisition, maintenance and repair of instrumentation and
equipment.
7. Assume responsibility for the establishment and maintenance of all
biomechanical testing data.
8. Represent the Coaching and Sport Sciences Division in media relations and
Community leadership activities.
9. Assist on site Physiologist with testing or other related services as
needed.
TOOLS/EQUIPMENT:
Standard office equipment
Standard and specialized biomechanics field and laboratory test equipment
CONDITIONS:
Office environment, multi-building complex.
Indoor/outdoor summer and winter sport environments. International and
domestic
travel required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's (or ABT) in biomechanics or related field or a minimum 3 years
experience testing and evaluation of athletes.
Demonstrated ability to design and implement applied research projects and
present results in a peer review forum.
Good communication and public speaking skills.

TITLE: Sport Physiologist

Provide physiology service, education, and consultation for elite athletes

coaches as a
member of the Coaching and Sport Sciences Division.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Active involvement in the physiological evaluation of U.S. National Team
athletes, with an
emphasis on developing a focused interest and specialization in a select
Number of Olympic sports.
2. Assist the Senior Sport Physiologist(s) in their role as the primary
Physiology resource working with elite U.S. athletes and coaches during
physiological testing sessions (lab or
field) for the purposes of:
a. Defining and describing the specific goals of the testing session.
b. Interacting with and addressing the needs of athletes and coaches
during the testing
session.
c. Interpreting and explaining test results to athletes and coaches,
with special emphasis on
application to training, competition and recovery.
3. Serve as the primary Physiology resource, and supervise Assistant Sport
Physiologist(s) in:
a. Scheduling of physiology testing (laboratory or field);
b. Conducting sport-specific protocols and collecting data;
c. Writing reports;
d. Maintaining the laboratory area (calibration, equipment maintenance &
repair, supplies, etc.);
e. Maintaining the Physiology Database;
f. Updating the Physiology Protocol Manual.
Consultation:
1. Serve as a source of knowledge to elite U.S. athletes and coaches on
various
physiology-
related issues including, but not limited to:
a. Periodization of training;
b. Overtraining;
c. Ergogenic aids;
d. Altitude training;
e. Sport-specific physiological evaluation.
Research:
1. Assist Senior Physiologist(s) to develop and conduct
laboratory-controlled
research projects
for the purpose of investigating applied, performance-oriented questions.
Work
in
conjunction with U.S. National Team coaches and athletes to develop
pertinent
performance-
oriented research questions.
Education:
1. Work in conjunction with the USOC Coaching Division to develop
appropriate
educational
programs for U.S. National Team coaches and athletes.
2. Maintain active involvement in the education of elite U.S. coaches and
athletes on physiology-related issues and topics via summits, conferences
and
publications.
3. Serve as a mentor and advisor to Assistant Sport Physiologist(s).
4. Serve as a host and educator to corporate sponsors and academic groups.
TOOLS/EQUIPMENT:
Standard office equipment.
Standard and specialized physiology laboratory and field equipment.
CONDITIONS:
Office and laboratory environment. Will also involve testing of athletes in
outdoor environments, possibly in adverse weather conditions. Handling of
blood
products in accordance with OSHA guidelines.

Master's in physiology or exercise physiology
