  • Job Announcement: Postdoctoral Fellowship - ClinicalMusculoskeletal Research

    Postdoctoral Senior Research Fellow:
Clinical Musculoskeletal Research (Upper and Lower Extremities)

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Fellowship (clinically-orientated
musculoskeletal research, upper and lower extremities) at the Schulthess Clinic, Zürich,
    Switzerland (http://www.schulthess-clinic.ch)

The Schulthess Clinic is recognised as one of the world’s leading orthopaedic hospitals,
with an active research department, which we are currently seeking to expand. Although our
main focus is clinical research, excellent opportunities also exist for collaboration with
the Dept of Biomechanics at the ETH, Zürich (http://www.lfb.ethz.ch/), and the Dept of
    Anatomy, University Zürich (http://www.unizh.ch/anatom/forschung/f_forschung_e.htm) in
order to pursue basic science/experimental research.

The job entails developing, directing, supervising and participating in all the research
activities of the Upper and/or Lower Extremities Departments. The Fellow will serve as a
collaborator and mentor for the clinical staff and residents of the department, and will
advise on the design, data analysis and publication of all research work conducted within
the department. The hospital’s main research interests and publications are described on
    our website http://www.schulthess-clinic.ch/Deutsch/navigation/aktuelles_forschung.htm The
Fellow will be expected to attract external funding from public grant-awarding bodies
and/or from industry in order to further support and expand the hospital’s research
    activities.

The necessary qualifications for the post include a MD/PhD or PhD in medical/human
sciences (e.g. physiology, biomechanics, biomedical engineering, human movement
sciences/kinesiology, rehabilitation science, sports science, psychology, epidemiology) or
a closely-related discipline and at least 2 years postdoctoral research experience. (The
equivalent status achieved after obtaining a MSc by research may also be considered.) The
applicant’s research skills will be demonstrated through his/her publications in quality
peer-reviewed journals, track record for attracting external research funding,
participation/attendance at international conferences and membership of accredited
international research societies. The ideal personal characteristics for the job include
excellent interpersonal communication skills, a well-developed ability to work
independently, creativity with respect to idea-generation, and enthusiasm to lead and
encourage a small team of other research fellows, research assistants, surgeons,
physicians, and clinical trainees within the department. Excellent written and spoken
English is essential, and a working knowledge of the German language (or a willingness to
acquire one quickly!) would be a positive asset but is not absolutely essential.

The position is available, in the first instance, for a three-year period (commencing as
soon as possible, after appropriate work visas have been organised - usually requires
about 3-6 months). Further funding will be dependent on performance. Salary will be
commensurate with qualifications and experience, and in accordance with the scales set by
    the National Science Foundation.

To submit applications, please provide a curriculum vitae (including list of
publications), a letter of application, and names, addresses, phone numbers and email
addresses of at least two referees who can give an unbiased evaluation of your
qualifications and suitability for the position.

Informal enquiries can be made (via email only) to Dr Anne F Mannion: afm@kws.ch

    Applications should be addressed to:
    PD Dr Anne F Mannion
    Head of Research
    Schulthess Klinik
    Lengghalde 2, 8008 Zürich
    Switzerland
