Director, School of Exercise, Leisure and Sport. Kent State University seeks
applications and nominations for the position of Director of the School of
Exercise, Leisure and Sport, appointment to be effective July 1, 2003. The
School is part of a health and human services cluster in the College of Fine
and Professional Arts. In this research and professionally-oriented School, a
full-time faculty of 28 serves more than 475 undergraduate and 75 graduate
students. The School is dedicated to providing excellence in exercise,
leisure and sport education, research, and service at the baccalaureate,
masters and doctoral levels, offering B.S., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees.
Qualifications: The selection process will focus upon candidates demonstrating
the most advantageous mix of the following: proven management/administrative
leadership, extensive professional/academic experience, successful research
and teaching experience. Candidates should possess an earned doctorate in a
relevant area.
Responsibilities: As executive administrator of the School, the Director will
report to the Dean of the College of Fine and Professional Arts in the
performance of educational and administrative responsibilities including:
financial and personnel management; academic program development and
evaluation; leadership in research and professional development; generation of
external funding and maintenance of a strong professional presence beyond the
campus.
Salary: Commensurate with credentials and experience.
Location: Kent State University is a Carnegie doctoral extensive institution
with more than 100 buildings, providing comprehensive undergraduate and
graduate programs for approximately 23,000 students on the Kent Campus, and
10,000 on seven Regional Campuses, and is located in Northeast Ohio, near the
urban centers of Cleveland, Akron, Canton and Youngstown. The University and
the adjoining communities provide a variety of cultural and social activities
ranging from theater and concerts to sporting events. The city of Kent, with
a population of 30,000, offers attractive housing, an excellent school system,
and varied recreational and leisure facilities.
