Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science - Professor of Biomechanical
Engineering
The University seeks to appoint a Professor of Biomechanical Engineering of
international research calibre, as part of its further commitments to the
pursuit of research excellence in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied
Science. The School of Engineering Sciences, rated most highly in the UK
Research Assessment (5*), provides an established, high quality research
environment. The foundation of this new chair is to provide academic
leadership to the recently formed Bioengineering Sciences Research Group,
through research scholarship of international standing based on well founded
links with clinicians and the medical device industry. Currently the
Bioengineering Sciences Research Group specialises in the development of
validated experimental and computational tools to predict the performance of
orthopaedic devices. The School would be interested in applicants with
complimentary research activities in bone/soft tissue mechanics; spine
biomechanics, musculo-skeletal mechanics and biofluid mechanics. You will
also be expected to develop a biomechanic teaching theme within the School
of Engineering Sciences. Research excellence will be the prime requirement
for this appointment, which will be within the non-clinical professorial
