ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

Responsibilities: 1) Primary responsibilities are to seek external funding
and conduct research broadly relevant to physical therapy; 2) Teaching
responsibilities are negotiable and based on applicant's expertise; 3)
Other responsibilities include service to the university, community, and

University: The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) is an
academic health sciences center, with Colleges of Medicine, Nursing,
Pharmacy, and Dentistry. Campus research strengths are in areas of
transplantation, cancer, genetics, and neuroscience. The mission of UNMC
is to improve the health of Nebraska through premier educational programs,
innovative research, the highest quality patient care, and outreach to
underserved populations. UNMC's research funding from external sources has
increased to $50.8 million annually, representing a 23 percent increase in
funding over last year's $41.3 million total.
Program: The Division of Physical Therapy Education is an
educational unit within the College of Medicine. The mission of the
Division is to educate entry-level generalist practitioners. We recently
implemented a new curriculum leading to the clinical degree, Doctor of
Physical Therapy (DPT). The faculty is dedicated to the promotion of
evidence-based clinical practice. To that end, we are seeking to fill a
new faculty position with an individual whose research will contribute to
such evidence.
The program has been accredited for its entire 30-year history. Detailed

Research: Applicants will be considered whose research involves
physiological mechanisms of movement or exercise, health behaviors,
development of measurement or diagnostic tools, or the effectiveness of
rehabilitation and exercise interventions.
Members of this program value collaboration in both research and teaching
efforts. Collaborative research opportunities exist within the program and
across campus. Recent research efforts within the department have been in
the general areas of motor control (muscle activation patterns, kinematics,
and kinetics of balance and jumping tasks) and exercise physiology (energy
expenditure, changes in health behavior, and changes in immunological
measures). Recent research projects have involved various subject
populations: healthy individuals of all ages, and individuals with
Alzheimer's disease, cerebral palsy, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple
sclerosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, sleep apnea, or anterior
cruciate ligament injuries.
Facilities: The program is housed in the Student Life Center
(constructed in 1995), which contains program offices, laboratories,
classrooms, the campus fitness facility, and the Clinical Movement Science
Laboratory (CMSL). The CMSL is equipped with multi-channel EMG and motion
analysis systems, force platforms, computerized dynamic posturography,
treadmills and metabolic gas analysis equipment.
