Biomechanics Position Announcement

POSITION
The Department of Health and Human Development invites applications for a
tenure-track, AY appointment in biomechanics at the rank of Assistant
Professor.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in biomechanics/kinesiology and
related labs (may include functional anatomy and physiology) for students
in exercise science, pre-physical therapy, athletic training, health
promotion, and health enhancement; advise undergraduate and graduate
students in exercise science and pre-physical therapy; supervise graduate
thesis research and work in a team environment in the Movement
Science/Human Performance Laboratory.
QUALIFICATIONS
The position requires
1. An earned doctorate in biomechanics/kinesiology (ABD considered) or
related field, with secondary expertise in one or more of the following:
motor learning, sports medicine/athletic training, exercise physiology.
2. Teaching experience in undergraduate exercise science courses.
Preference will be given to those candidates who demonstrate:
1. Background to teach graduate biomechanics.
2. Experience in the use of biomechanics lab equipment.
3. Experience with the multidisciplinary nature of biomechanics research.
4. A record of scholarly activity including peer-reviewed publications
and/or presentations.
5. Excellence in written and oral communication skills.
6. Ability to apply biomechanics principles to a variety of human
movement areas (sport, rehabilitation, ergonomics, health and fitness).
The successful candidate will also demonstrate:
1. Ability to collaborate with Exercise Physiology and /or Nutrition
and Exercise faculty.
2. An understanding of the interdisciplinary role of biomechanics
within movement science across the life span.
3. Willingness to work with diverse populations.
CURRENT BIOMECHANICS LABORATORY EQUIPMENT
2 AMTI force plates mounted within a 17 m walkway; Biometrics
electrogoniometers; preamplified surface electrodes; 2 National Instruments
A/D boards with Labview software; 3 Panasonic AG450 camcorders; 2 JVC
genlockable 60 Hz cameras; 2 Redlake high speed digital motion meter
cameras (250 fps) and Peak Motus 3D automatic digitizing system (V7.2.1).
APPLICATION PROCEDURES
Starting date for contract is August 15, 2003. Candidates should forward a
letter of application addressing required and preferred qualifications, a
copy of their curriculum vita, the names, addresses, phone, and E-mail for
three references, and no more than three publication reprints to: Bette

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The collaborative and energetic faculty has as its mission is to provide
education, public service and outreach, as well as conduct research to
promote healthy lifestyles for individuals, families and
organizations. The area of Health, Nutrition and Movement Science offers
undergraduate majors concentrations in exercise science, pre-physical
therapy, health enhancement K-12, community health education, and health
promotion. Graduate programs draw students with interests in pedagogy,
exercise physiology, biomechanics, health, and athletic training.
Externally funded research dollars have more than tripled in five years
through cooperative efforts of teams of faculty from diverse fields of
expertise.
ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY
Montana State University-Bozeman is the state's land grand institution of
12,000 students with responsibility for teaching and research. There are
approximately 50,000 people residing in the greater Bozeman area and 36,000
