The ELEVENTH ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM on
COMPUTATIONAL METHODS IN ORTHOPAEDIC BIOMECHANICS

Dear Colleagues:
This is a reminder regarding the Eleventh Annual Symposium on
Computational Methods in Orthopaedic Biomechanics (the "pre-ORS"
meeting) in New Orleans.
Location:
The pre-ORS symposium will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2003 on the
Tulane University campus, which is a short streetcar ride from the
French Quarter and the main site of the ORS meeting. Check-in will
begin at 8 a.m., with a single session format running through the
afternoon. Details about how to get to Tulane University (and the
meeting room) will be posted on the website in approximately one week.
Registration:
Registration for this symposium is free, although it is requested in
advance to assist with planning efforts for meals, etc.. On-line
registration is available at:

Objectives:
Formally, the objectives of the symposium are to present current
thinking on the impact of computer assisted techniques in the field of
orthopaedic biomechanics, to educate scientist and researchers in the
use of these techniques, and to promote the use of computer technology
in biomechanical research. In keeping with the tradition of this
symposium, presentation of research is limited to "junior" researchers
(either graduate students or PhDs within five years of their degree) who
are actively involved in computational work of any nature related to
orthopaedics.
Typical issues that have been discussed in the past include: computer
modeling of whole bones from quantitative computed tomography scans;
finite element formulation and implementation of non-linear constitutive
models for soft tissues; development and numerical behavior of
algorithms for simulation of bone remodeling; computer modeling of
bone-implant systems; contact problems; micro-mechanical modeling of
tissues; and motion/dynamic analysis of the skeleton
Abstracts:
Abstract submission is closed, and notifications regarding abstract
status have already been sent out.
Schedule:
The formal schedule for the symposium will be finalized soon and will be
available on-line.
Social Program:
In keeping with another tradition of the Pre-ORS, there will be a
conference get-together after the symposium.
