Dear Colleagues,
In order to keep the upcoming Second Berlin Symposium on the "Significance
of Musculo-skeletal Soft Tissue on Pre-Operative
Planning, Surgery and Healing" small enough to ensure constructive
discussion and maximum involvement from the delegates,
places at the event were limited.
Unfortunately a number of delegates have been forced to drop out, meaning
that some places have again become available. I would like
to therefore invite a few more delegates to participate with us in an event
that aims to bring together the current state of knowledge
on the importance and influence of musculo-skeletal soft tissues on healing
and biology.
The goal of the Symposium:
To initiate a discussion between researchers from the fields of
physiology/biology and biomechanics with clinicians. To complement
the current understanding of the significance of the surrounding
soft tissues as the predominant "extra-osseous" blood supply, as
coverage of bone and as actuators in restoring biomechanical
balance.
Main topics:
The importance of muscles during pre-operative planning
Post-traumatic changes in soft tissue biology
Musculo-skeletal loading influences tissue healing
Full details of the meeting, and the complete programme are to be found
under:
http://www.charite.de/unfallchirurgie/symp2003_e.htm
Highlights of the two day meeting include talks from:
G Bergmann
Influence of patient activity on joint loading in vivo
M Viceconti
New aspects and approaches in pre-operative planning of hip reconstruction
P Messmer
Reduction forces and it's influence on treatment
M Heller
Restoring joint loading: Influence of soft tissues on kinematics and
kinetics after proximal tibia osteotomy
A-C Masquelet
Muscle reconstruction in plastic surgery
MD Menger
Experimental models to study microcirculatory dysfunction in striated muscle
ischemia-reperfusion and osteomyocutaneous flap transfer
KD Schaser
Effect of soft tissue damage on fracture healing: Intravital microscopic and
biomechanical investigations in rats
H Peng/J Huard
Tissue engineering of skeletal muscles
G Duda
Muscle activity defines mechanical environment during fracture healing and
influences healing result
E Schneider
Are minimally invasive procedures an advantage in fracture treatment?
C Perka
The surgical approach may determine long term clinical outcome
W Herzog
Muscle loading influences biological tissue adaptation
L Claes
The influence of fracture stabilisation on vascularization of the bone
healing zone
