ARC APAI Scholarship
Clinical Biomechanics
Graduates with an honours degree, or equivalent, are invited to apply for
an APAI scholarship funded as part of an Australian Research Council
Linkage grant. In collaboration with the Royal Children's Hospital
Foundation and the Royal Children's Hospital and Health Services District,
this project focuses on the analysis of children with disabilities that
limit their ability to walk efficiently. This project aims to develop a
greater understanding of children who walk with assistive devices, through
the application of gait analysis techniques. It will incorporate the design
and development of a portable load-measuring instrument to supplement
existing methods of assessing walking ability. Clinical studies will be
undertaken at the Queensland Children's Gait Laboratory.
The PhD scholarship offers an annual stipend of $23,294 tax free, for a
period of three years. Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent
residents of Australia, and have a background in an area such as
engineering, physics, biomechanics or other clinically related field.
Certified copies of academic records, a curriculum vitae and contact
details of two referees should be forwarded to Dr Timothy Barker, School of
Mechanical, Manufacturing & Medical Engineering, at the address below, by
fax 07 3864 1469, or e-mail t.barker@qut.edu.au by February 21, 2003. For
further details telephone 07 3864 1734.
