Tenure Track Engineering Faculty Position in Movement Analysis
The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS)
(http://www.eas.asu.edu/CEAS) and the Herberger College of Fine Arts
(HCFA) (http://herbergercollege.asu.edu) at Arizona State University are
announcing an opening for a tenure track assistant professor in motion
analysis. The tenure home will be the Electrical Engineering or Computer
Science and Engineering Department of CEAS depending on the
qualifications and background of the successful candidate. The research
home of the candidate will be the newly formed Center for
Interdisciplinary Research in Media Arts and Engineering (CIRMAE) (a
joint CEAS/HCFA center).
The goal of CIRMAE is to facilitate the parallel, integrated development
of media hardware, software, content and theory. CIRMAE is housed at the
internationally known Institute for Studies in the Arts (ISA).
Facilities include a real time motion capturing studio with a sprung
floor and multimodal feedback capabilities (graphics, video, sound,
lights), a black box mediated theater, video editing facilities, digital
sound studio, digital arts gallery, mediated classrooms, I2 and
computing facilities. CIRMAE is involved in interdisciplinary ground
breaking research in movement and dance analysis. The movement research
group includes engineering, bio- engineering, psychology, and arts
faculty from ASU as well as distinguished guest artists and researchers.
The research group’s application areas include dance, rehabilitation,
identification, motion perception, sports and education. The successful
candidate will be expected to take a leadership role in the movement
analysis group and contribute significantly to the development of the
education and research mission of CIRMAE.
Minimum qualifications: doctorate degree in related discipline; record
of research excellence in 3D motion analysis and/or computer vision
and/or pattern recognition. Desired Qualifications: Interdisciplinary
experience in research spanning Media, Arts and Engineering, teaching
experience at the Univeristy level, evidence of funded research spanning
the sciences and the arts, and demonstrated effective communication
skills.
