  • Motion Lab Research Position

    Job Code: BRL#2101-2003
Title: Staff Scientist, Biomechanics Research Laboratory
Location: Steadman-Hawkins Sports Medicine Foundation, Vail, Colorado, USA

Applications deadline is March 10, 2003.

Job Start date: June 1, 2003 (desirable but negotiable).

Description: 12-month, Full-time, Staff Scientist position.

    Responsibilities:
    1. Utilize current software and develop additional data collection,
reduction and analysis software for both clinical and research testing of
knee and shoulder 3D kinematics and kinetics. Specifically, experience in
human motion analysis conducted utilizing inverse dynamic techniques is
    desired.
    2. Coordinate and integrate the output data of the motion analysis
laboratory with the Senior Research Staff working in computer modeling and
simulation. The data collected in the motion lab is used as constraint
variables for multi-degrees of freedom computational models of the knee and
    shoulder.
    3. Provide assistance and educational training to staff, students,
clinicians and researchers who utilize the laboratory space, equipment and
    data.
    4. Initiate an independent line of research under the general approval and
guidance of the Senior Research and Clinical Staff.
    5. Present research findings at appropriate National and International
    scientific and clinical forums.

Qualifications: The position requires a MS Degree or equivalent experience
in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering,
Kinesiology or similar discipline and demonstrated proficiency in
biomechanics research. Computer programming skills with Matlab, C/C++, in
relation to 3D kinematic and kinetic analysis of human movement (with
emphasis on knee and shoulder function desired) will be necessary.
Knowledge of multi-body dynamics (inverse/forward dynamics), control and
computer modeling/simulation experience would be beneficial.

Facility: With eight functional departments (Clinical Research, Basic
    Science/Molecular Biology, Biomechanics, Bioskills/Surgery, IS/Technical
Services, Education/Medical Fellowship Program, Program Development/PR,
Administration/HR), the Steadman-Hawkins Foundation is one of the largest,
independent, non-profit research institutes dedicated solely to orthopedic
research related to sports medicine. The Motion Analysis Laboratory is
located within the Biomechanics Research Department and is a dedicated
scientific and clinical research facility that evaluates a wide range of
patients including pediatric, adult and geriatric populations in an
orthopedic, sports medicine based environment. The motion analysis
laboratory performs primarily three-dimensional analyses of lower extremity
(knee) and upper extremity (shoulder) joint motions. A primary initiative
of the motion analysis laboratory is to work in conjunction with the
computer modeling and simulation division and provide technical expertise,
assistance and input data to support and enhance complex musculoskeletal
    models.

Physical labor, such as moving necessary laboratory equipment (force plate,
cameras, cables, computers/monitors, etc…) maybe required with this position
and some items may weight in excess of 60 lbs. The physical demands and
work environment described here are representative of those that must be met
by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with
disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Send a letter of application detailing career goals, objectives and research
interests, a curriculum vita and two appropriate letters of reference by
    mail or email to:
