Title: Motion Analysis Lab Director
Location: University of Florida Orthopaedics Institute, Gainesville, FL

The University of Florida Department of Orthopaedics is seeking an individual to act in the capacity of Motion Analysis Lab Director. The Department of Orthopaedics is beginning construction of a new Orthopaedics Institute that will house a state of the art Motion Analysis Lab (MAL). The new MAL will be involved with both clinical and basic science studies of balance, locomotion, motor impairment and sport performance. Clinically the lab will focus on patient with Cerebral Palsy, other neuromuscular disorders, joint replacement, and sports injuries. Basic science studies will be carried out in collaboration with faculty from orthopaedics, engineering and physical therapy. The MAL will conduct basic and clinical research in human movement analysis, dynamic modeling, sensory integration, muscle mechanics and physiology, and clinical evaluation of rehabilitation protocols and technology.
Description of Position:
* Organizing and coordinating research studies related to motion analysis and biomechanics
* The director will also be responsible for operation of a clinical motion analysis laboratory in conjunction with the physicians on staff.
* Organizing and coordinating clinical studies related to:
* arthritis of all types
* cerebral palsy
* foot disorders including diabetes and athletic shoe evaluations
* hip intertrochanteric osteotomies and knee disorders including high tibial osteotomies
* joint endoprostheses including hip and knee replacements
* idiopathic gait disorders of the elderly
* lower limb prosthesis and orthosis assessments
* Parkinson's disease, post-polio syndrome, stroke/CVA
* vestibulopathy and other balance and movement disorders
* Sports - throwing and running
* Upper extremity ergonomics
* Supervision and direction of personnel in the MAL
* Collaboration with Orthopaedics clinical faculty
* Data collection and analysis
* Preparation of grant proposals and manuscripts
* Assisting the Director of Research in various other aspects of Biomechanics research and administration
* Overseeing the daily operation of the laboratory
* The director will be responsible for maintaining and developing research programs.
* Contribute to the education of residents in the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation.
* Additional administrative duties will encompass supervising research projects within the department and assisting faculty, residents and students with individual research projects including design and statistical analyses.
Qualifications for this Position:
The ideal candidate should hold an earned doctorate in Biomechanics (or related field) and have technical expertise and experience in the application of biomechanical techniques for the study of human movement with a demonstrated competence in managing a research group, in publications, in generation of external funding and in links with the industrial field.
Salary Range:
This is a tenure-track faculty position. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
Other Information:
The MAL will be housed in a 37' x 75' state of the art facility with a budget of $500,000 for the purchase of equipment. Gainesville is located within a two-hour drive to Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville and beaches on the Gulf and Atlantic coasts.
